Madımak Massacre memorial

Thirty years ago, on July 2, 1993, a massacre took place in the city of Sivas, in central Turkey. At the Madımak Hotel, a mob attacked a gathering of artists, intellectuals, and young people — many of them members of the Alevi community. The hotel was set on fire, and 33 people lives were lost.

On the 30th anniversary of the massacre in 2023, the Alevi Union Europe developed the Madımak Massacre Memorial Centre Online Portal, which consists of a Digital Library, Virtual Museum, Documentary, Web Documentary, Oral History Interviews and Interviews.

The Centre says the monument, erected in honour of our 33 souls, is an online monument that will enable anyone looking at the sky from all over the world to see the truth about the massacre and the memories of those we lost and the cycles of the 33 souls will be everlasting.
